Trick Or Treat Halloween GIF by FIFA - Find & Share on GIPHY

Vancouver was chosen as one of the host cities for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This isn’t new, but let me tell you something… I’m super excited! I witnessed how the World Cup brought people together in Brazil in 2014, especially in my hometown, Natal. It was magical to see the streets filled with fans from all over the world, parties on every corner, and that contagious energy.

Now, I can’t wait to see some of that magic in the streets of Vancouver, turning the city into a huge stage for international celebrations. Vancouver will host seven games, including group matches and rounds of 32 and 16, all at BC Place, which is equipped for big events like the thrilling Women’s World Cup final in 2015.

Mark these dates:

  • Group stages: June 13, 18, 21, 24, 26, 2026
  • Knockouts: July 2, 2026 (Round of 32) and July 7, 2026 (Round of 16)

Even though tickets aren’t available yet, you can pre-register on FIFA’s website to get ticket sales info early.

I know soccer isn’t so popular here, but It’s not just about soccer! The World Cup in 2026 is special because it’s the first to be hosted by three countries: Canada, Mexico, and the USA. It will mark a new era of multinational celebration and include 48 teams, making it the most inclusive and grand event ever, bringing together not just a continent, but fans from all around the world.

I believe this is a chance for Vancouver to show the world its beauty, multiculturalism, and hospitality. Plus, it’s a significant economic boost. More importantly, it’s an opportunity to connect with more international visitors and celebrate the diversity here.

And look who has also experienced the last World Cup…

Just like the mayor, I’m excited to witness again this football… Ops, my bad. Soccer’s celebration in my new city in Canada. I’m especially rooting for Brazil to play here in Vancouver, but as a part of this city now, I’ll be supporting both Brazil and Canada of course! Imagine cheering for both teams, celebrating the best of both worlds. OMG!

Get ready, Vancouver!

Who is Alphonso Davies? The Canadian Speed and Talent in European Soccer’s Elite

Alphonso Davies has emerged on the global football stage as a symbol of pure talent. His journey from a refugee to a star at Bayern Munich is a source of inspiration for many, including myself. Recently, on a Champions League night, I saw him stand out as he scored his first goal in the competition against Real Madrid. Despite his team’s loss, Davies reaffirmed his status among football’s elite with a spectacular goal.

But, to start, I would like to ask you… Do you know who is Alphonso Davies? He Born in a refugee camp in Ghana, Davies moved to Canada with his family in 2005 when he was just 5 years old. He began his football career with the Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS, where his skill, speed, and technique quickly caught the eye of major European clubs.

His prowess did not go unnoticed, and soon Bayern Munich brought him into their squad in January 2019.

Since arriving at Bayern, Davies has proven to be a key player for the club. His versatility in playing both as a left-back and in more advanced positions has allowed him to accumulate an impressive number of matches and goals for a football player in his position. To date, Davies has scored over 11 goals for the German club across all competitions.

On the international stage, Davies has also excelled playing for the Canadian national team. He has not only contributed important goals but also decisive assists, establishing himself as one of the team’s leading players. To date, he has scored about 10 goals for his country, including crucial matches in World Cup qualifiers and the Gold Cup.

Davies’ performance in the recent Champions League match reflects his importance to Bayern. Despite the team’s defeat, he scored his first Champions League goal, being directly involved in 9 goals for Bayern (1 goal and 8 assists) in the tournament.

Davies’ journey is remarkable not only for his achievements on the field but also for his impact off it. As one of the few players of African descent at the top of European football, he serves as a role model for many young athletes around the world, proving that talent and determination can overcome the most challenging circumstances.

Alphonso Davies continues to shine at Bayern Munich and for the Canadian national team. Following Bayern’s elimination, many speculate whether the Canadian star might move to Real Madrid, though nothing has been announced yet. However, one thing is certain his talent and passion for the game are incredible. His life story, from early adversity to success in global football, offers a narrative of inspiration and admiration.

What he has achieved so far is just the beginning, and I really believe that everybody in football scene will see much more from this phenomenal Canadian in the coming years, especially at the World Cup scheduled to be hosted by Canada, Mexico and USA in 2026.

Did you know about Alphonso Davies? What did you think about learning a little more about his journey? Tell me in the box below. ↓

Any Plans for This Summer? Find out What’s Back in Vancouver!

From the ‘90s, Summer Movie Night has grown to be one of the most popular events in summer. The people of Vancouver enjoyed the special summer event that provided them with a unique outdoor cinema encounter under the marvellous summer sky filled with stars. This creative event began as a small endowment in 1992 to gather the community to a communal, climate-friendly ice-breaker. The giant screen was set at the Vancouver Art Gallery’s North Plaza, and the best part was that movies were seen for free, from classics to current flicks.

Because of budget restraints and changes in the city’s event organizing, Summer Movie Night had to take an unforeseen hiatus and will be back for the first time from July 4th to August 15th, 2024. It is a highly anticipated experience for Vancouver citizens, visitors from other cities, and me since I will also do it for the first time. In the mid-2000s, Summer Movie Night was at its peak: the central open space of the North Plaza flourished with flowers and people in their thousands. Every weekend, families, large groups of friends, and couples of all ages came to the North Plaza filled with picnics and blankets, creating a warm and cheerful atmosphere.

More than a simple movie screening location, the Summer Movie Night has become an epicenter of the local film culture with local food truck stalls and beer shops popping open, the performance groups giving their shows before the screenings, and the movie workshop set up inside.

The summer of 2015 was the last time Summer Movie Night took place, the event had to be paused, and the citizens of Vancouver felt the loss of a symbolic and cherished summer event. Finally, in 2024, after nine years, the event makes a return, and this time the community is even more enthusiastic about it. This is because the organizers have assured the film lovers of the community that they will be revising and optimizing the event to resonate with the changes in the city and optimal user preferences.

Summer Movie Night is hosted by @downtownvan, updated this year is a specially selected mix of innovative new films and some of our favorite classics. There is something for everyone, with subtitles and wheelchair spaces throughout, it’s a truly inclusive and accessible experience. Moreover, the organization plans to bring local artists and food trucks to the event, offering a chance to sample and encourage movies and Vancouver’s local talent. Whether one is an avid film enthusiast or completely new into the enterprise, you will seize this opportunity to enjoy a movie at one of Vancouver’s beloved and iconic venues this summer.

I am counting down the days until my first summer evening: moments of the year that anticipate weeks of laughing, applauding, smiling, popcorn sipping, and display together with my friends. Mark the summer date on your schedule book, and plan on attending one of Vancouver’s most enjoyable and secure vibrant summer presentations: I hope to see you there. The event will happen:

  • When: Thursday evenings, July 4—Aug 15, 2024. Movies begin at sundown, with performances and activities starting at 5pm.
  • Where: šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square (formerly known as the Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza).

From Rebel Roots to Olympic Glory in 2024: Discover Vancouver’s Skate Scene

Skateboarding has morphed from an emblem of counterculture in the 1970s to a respected art and sports community in Vancouver today.

In this article, I want to show you the transformation of skateboard in Vancouver by talking about familiar figures like Kevin Harris  and the unique intersection of skateboarding with urban art, and how I see all of this as an international student and new resident here.

2021 - Vancouver - China Creek Skateboard Park

(Ted McGrath | Flickr – Vancouver,BC)

In the 1970s, skateboarding emerged in Vancouver. As a kind of expression by young people against conventional values and lifestyles of that time, it was quickly accepted and introduced all over the city. Suddenly, skateboard parks appeared one after another. As little kingdoms isolated from each other they gave refuge and expression possibilities to skaters.

Kevin Harris, for example, is an iconic figure in the history of Canadian skateboarding. In 1982, he reached a professional level seldom before achieved by Canadians. Since then he has been one of the world ‘s ultimate freestyle skateboarders. He and his friends were instrumental in popularizing the sport in Vancouver and for some time even outside it. Known for his remarkable freestyle ability and for building his own ramps, he began jumping over hockey sticks.

(Kevin Harris – Instagram)

Harris also sought to build up the infrastructure for skateboarding in the city, opening one of the first dedicated skate shops and tracks and Indoor gardens and skate complexes in small towns. He also owns Ultimate Skateboards, Canada’s main skateboard distribution centre for all, and Concrete Skateboard Magazine, which is the nation’s pioneering magazine on skating.

The skate parks in Vancouver and nearby cities are famous not only for their ramps and bowls but also as canvases for local artists. Vibrant murals and graffiti adorn many of these spaces, reflecting the culture and social issues of the city. This fusion of art and sport illustrates how skateboarding is more than just a recreational activity; it’s a form of artistic dialogue and personal expression

Today, I belive skateboarding is not only recognized as a legitimate sport but also as a crucial element of the local urban culture of various cities around the globe. Proof of that was the inclusion of skateboarding in the Olympic Games, Skateboarding made its debut appearance at the 2020 Summer Olympics in 2021 in Tokyo, Japan. It has also been provisionally approved by the IOC for inclusion at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris many cities has reinforced its support for the skateboarding community, investing in more parks and events that celebrate both the athletic and cultural aspects of skateboarding.

In Brazil, place where I come from, we have our own skate heroes, like Raissa Leal, for example, a young girl so full of talent. Seeing Harris revered here just as Raissa is in Brazil shows that talent and dedication are universal.

Let me invite you to see skateboarding’s world here in Vancouver during this summer. Isn’t just a pastime it’s a really fun sport and can be a showplace to know more about art from local artists too.

Want to see some places in person? I have separated three hidden gems that in my opinion are good to take a look:

Have you got any skate tales worth telling? Comment below. It would be a pleasure to know your experience.
