A Possible Vancouver Concert?

You know what’s so sad? Nicki Minaj won’t be coming to Vancouver , B.C. On her Pink Friday 2 world tour. She started her tour after February of 2024 and toured around many states in the U.S and even Toronto , twice. Her first leg of the tour ended and she decided to release a second part of her tour which again, was North America. Looking at the tour dates, Vancouver isn’t included once again. The last time she was scheduled to come to Vancouver was in 2018 during her Queen Tour but it got canceled and she never came again. The last time she did coke to Vancouver was during her Pink Print Tour in 2015, almost 10 years ago which is crazy! It would be awesome if she came to Vancouver again, the fans here love her and would love to see her perform her iconic hits.

Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 tour is mainly focusing on songs from her newest album Pink Friday 2. The album was a huge success and you can see how much hard work, love and passion she put into it. It shows her maturity but also keeps that classic, amazing Nicki Minaj brand throughout. The quality of the songs are really great and her word play is insane as usual. However, she will also be performing songs from her other album eras like: Anaconda, Tusa, Chun Li, Starships, Romans Revenge and much more! This tour is a love letter to her fans and the quality of her performances are super cool! The visuals are amazing and the props add another layer of excitement to her concert.

Only time will tell when Nicki Minaj will return to Vancouver but until then, Vancouver fans can fly out to other parts of the states to see her perform. Let’s hope one day, she returns to Vancouver to perform her amazing hits!

Rock in Vancouver

Can you guess who’s headlining the Rickshaw Theatre in Vancouver B.C. on Friday September 20? It’s none other than the creepy John 5. The venue is located on 254 East Hastings Street. The doors open at 18:30 and the ticket prices range from $30. The Tour he’s going out on is called Strung Out Tour 2024 and he has 43 upcoming concerts which is honestly very respectable. “Who is he”, you may ask? Well, his real name is John William Lowery and he was born on July 31 1970. He’s an American guitarist. He first took the stage name “John 5” when he left the band “David Lee Roth” and joined Marilyn Manson. He later became a guitarist for the band “Rob Zombie” which really suits his brand and weird style. And in 2022, he toured with Motley Crüe as a guitarist and then got promoted as a full member in 2023 which was huge for him and his career.

Even though he’s a member of that band he’s also a solo artist. He’s recorded ten guitar albums: Vertigo, Songs for Sanity, The devil knows my name, requiem, the art of malice, God told me, careful with that ax, season of the witch, sinner, and invasion. To be honest, I feel like his whole brand is very corny. His style is often very creepy with cakey makeup choices that make him look demonic. The demon brand is also evident in his album names like “the devil knows my name”. That’s a reason why I don’t like rock music much, it’s filled with people who love doing over the top , corny and cringe stunts. I wouldn’t say he looks terrifying but I personally don’t see the appeal of dressing up as a demonic and creepy figure, it kind of makes me laugh and seems like he’s trying too hard to be different when there’s other ways to do that.

His song catalog is pretty creative though and consists of well thought out singles like: Sweet Dreams, The Beautiful people, Kickstart my heart, Tainted love, This is the new sh*t, Wild Side, The Nobodies and Take a picture. Again, it seems like he’s trying too hard with the demon aesthetic like in the music videos and cover arts. But, it’s his brand and if people like it, more power to them.

B.C. ROCK MUSIC CONCERT

Have you been looking for rock concerts to go to? Well, I may have an artist who can catch your interest. The band is “Fontaines D.C.” they will be touring with “Been Stellar”. “Who are they”, you may ask? Well, I’ll provide some brief backstory: They are an Irish band who formed in Dublin in 2014. The band consists of five members being: Grian Chatten, Conner Curley, Conner Deegan, Tom Coll and Carlos O’Connell. These band mates are very talented and I believe that they set themselves apart from other rock artists due to their creativity. They met each other while attending music college and built a close connection through their love for poetry. After they formed their band they began releasing singles and performing live at events. They also signed to the Partisan record label in 2018. After signing with this label they released their first debut album titled “Dogrel”. At first I was so confused what that meant so I did a quick Google search and decided to break it down for you: Dogreal means, loosely styled and irregular in measure especially for burlesque or comic effect.

The album was named album of the year on the record store “Rough Trade”. Furthermore the album was voted album of the year on “BBC Radio 6 Music” and nominated for the mercury prize. That was a lot to take away from their first album and the pressure was on to make an even better follow up album. The band worked very hard on a series of songs for their next body of work and then finally released “A Hero’s Death” this album was also successful for the band and peaked their career even more. Their second album was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards. Being nominated for a Grammy for any artist is insane and definitely provides a sense of stability to their career. Even though they didn’t win they still got acknowledged and that was enough for them.

B.C. Music – Single Mothers

Wednesday, September 25 it’s going down! The iconic “Single Mothers” band is coming to The Cobalt, Vancouver, B.C. The venue is located at 917 Main Street and the doors open at 19:00. Now, this band’s name is quite interesting and if you’ve never heard of them before it might be a bit awkward for you to hear without context. So, I’ll provide some background on this band. Band member: Andrew Thompson created this band in 2008 after he went through a heartbreak. I feel like heart break brings out a side of us that evolves our way of thinking and creativity. The band released two EP’s when they first started. The EP’s were: Wild Party (2010), and Single Mothers (2011). The second EP was pushed a lot by the group since it was their self-titled album. This EP had fully marketed singles that came with music videos. The most recognizable songs in this EP were: “Christian Girls and “Baby”. The band headlined a tour in the U.S a year after they released their self titled album which was again, very successful. I feel like when artists first start their career it’s important to build a fanbase early on. Once you build a fanbase you can headline tours and market yourself more which creates more success and benefits the brand itself.

The founder of the band, Andrew Thompson ended up leaving the band. I know, plot twist! He quit in 2011 to prospect for gold in Ontario. His father noticed that Andrew was around the wrong people and his life wasn’t doing the best. Andrew was originally going to Ontario for a few months but he ended up loving it there and stayed for three years. When he was in Ontario he still recorded music. He also released a four song EP titled “Honesty is a confidence problem”. He later reunited with the band and started working on their debut album.

B.C. Music – Explosions in the Sky

The date is September 23 and the start time is 8:00pm. If you’re confused, be no more. The band “Explosions in the Sky” will be coming to Vancouver B.C. They will be performing in the iconic Orpheum Theatre. The type of music that this band makes is instrumental rock and they are originally from the state of Texas. This band have been recognized time and time again for their bold, emotional and even cinematic music. This band is also adored for their live performances and amazing stage presence. You know, I love when artists have great stage presence, not only does it make the whole concert more fun and enjoyable but it helps to connect with the artist and truly see how much they care for their audience and fans. It shows their personality, talents and even hard work that they put towards their craft. Explosions in the sky are no strangers to having amazing feedback and success, honestly speaking, they deserve it and I recommend checking out some of their live performances.

This band has performed in many venues. Some notable ones are: Radio City Music Hall, Royal Albert Hall, The Greek Theatre, and the iconic Sydney Opera House which is definitely something I’d brag about all the time if I performed in there. I remember visiting the opera house in 7th grade and it feels so euphoric! The band has been together for a whopping 24 years and they’ve achieved an insane amount of success from around the world. They’ve sold over 1.3 million copies from their six albums which is very impressive from a lowkey band like them. They’ve also been approached to tour with: Death Cab for Cutie, The Flaming Lips, Smashing Pumpkins and even Nine Inch Nails. The diversity is just so incredible! And the opportunities that this band have gotten are quite remarkable. This tour is perfect for anyone who’s looking to

B.C. Music – Palaye Royale

n you guess who’s headlining the Vogue Theatre in Vancouver B.C. on Saturday September 21? It’s none other than Palaye Royale. “Who are they”, you may ask? Well, they are an American rock band from Las Vegas who were formed in 2008. The band consists of three brothers who show their talent via their music. They first formed under the name Kropp Circle and released one EP and two singles before changing their name to Palaye Royale in 2011. Under this name they made five albums and four EP’s. It’s clear that this is their stable name!

Their studio albums consist of: Boom Boom Room (Side A) which reached number 21 in the US Billboard Heatseekers Albums, Boom Boom Room (Side B) which reached number 89 on the Billboard 200 album charts, The Bast*rds which reached number 192 on the billboard 200 charts, Fever Dreams, Death or Glory. As for their EP’s they consist of: Who we really are, The Ends beginning, S*xtape, and Songs for sadness. According to fans this band is always here to provide quality music and innovate their brand and style with each album that they release.

Their style is very interesting and looks very “rock”. When you think of a rock singer you would probably have something like them in your mind. The three boys all have talents that shine in their music. Some great songs from their catalog include: No love in L.A., Broken, Paranoid, Showbiz, Punching Bag, Fever Dream, Lonely, and Hang onto yourself. I can tell that they put lots of effort into their music however, this type of style isn’t my cup of tea.

B.C. Music – John 5

Can you guess who’s headlining the Rickshaw Theatre in Vancouver B.C. on Friday September 20? It’s none other than the creepy John 5. The venue is located on 254 East Hastings Street. B.C. Music Scene – Chantel Kreviazuk

Can you guess who’s headlining the Vancouver Playhouse in Vancouver B.C. on Friday September 20? It’s none other than our gal, Chantal Kreviazuk. The venue is located at 600 Hamilton street and the doors open at 20:00. If you don’t know much about her, allow me to provide some background. She’s born on May 18 1973 and is a Canadian singer, songwriter, composer and pianist. It’s great to see that she has so many talents that she incorporates into her music. She was born in Winnipeg and she played music from a very young age which gave her the skills and power to create such a successful career. She signed with Columbia Records in the 1990s which was a huge step in her career and brand. Her debut album, “Under These Rocks and Stones”, was released in Canada in 1996 and saw lots of success from the general public and her new fan base. Once her label saw all this success they released it in the United States the following year.

It was a no-brainer for Chantel to release more albums and that’s what she did. Under Columbia Records she released two more studio albums being Colour Moving and Still in 1999 and What if it all means something in 2002. Both of these bodies of work brought moderate success worldwide which was kind of a let down for her. I feel like artists get too confident and start releasing poor work after their debut albums do well. After her albums did moderate she decided to sign with Song BMG for her fourth album called Ghost Stories in 2006. Thankfully this album did great despite the fourth album curse. It reached number two on the Canadian albums chart. Oh what, “what’s the fourth album curse”? Well, many artists in North America release many albums but their fourth albums are usually flops. This goes for many artists and it’s been proven to be true time and time again but it’s great to see that Chantel found success in her fourth album.

From the beginning of her career to 2016, Chantel was the 51st best selling artist in Canada which is incredible for her. She grew so much as a person and found so many people who loved her.

B.C. Rock Music – Elefante

Can you guess who’s headlining the South Hal in Vancouver B.C. on Friday, September 20? It’s none other than Elefante! The location of the vent is 8273 Rosa Street and the doors open at 20:00. The name of their tour is Elefante Canada Tour 2024 and their rock music is very unique! If you don’t know who they are, I’ll provide some background. They are a Latin rock band. The group first came to relevancy when they opened for artist “Joaquin Sabina” in Mexico Cities National Auditorium. After many tours in America opening for amazing artists like Shakira and Mana, something very unfortunate happened. Their lead singer, in the middle of their peak left the band to pursue a solo career in 2003. The band had to think fast and replace him so they did, they recruited Jorge Martinez. He was a former lead singer for the group Caos so he definitely had experience in success.

The band got so successful that in 2005 the band was nominated for a Latin Grammy award. The group has five albums and the self-titled one gained the most success. I love Latin music so I will definitely look into this concert and check out more of their amazing hits.

Some hit songs on their catalog that are worth listening to are: Durmiendo con la Luna, Mentirosa feat. Socios del Ritmo, El Abandonao, De la Noche a la Mañana, Así Es la Vida, Pinta Tu Raya
