The Whitecaps are back in the MLS win column as they defeat the Earthquakes in a west coast rivalry. Who were the standouts for the Caps and who scored the goals? Lets get into it!
First Half
In the first 6 minutes, San Jose earned a corner kick that was whipped into the box and headed on goal by Martinez, luckily Priso got back and made a goal line clearance to keep the game tied at 0-0. In the 38th minute the Caps earned a free kick on the left wing, Berhalter stepped over the ball. He whips it into the back post and Ryan Elloumi is there to help it home and score his second MLS goal. 1-0 Whitecaps. That would be all the action in the first half.
Second Half
The second half kicked off and the Whitecaps kept their foot on the gas. in the 56th minute the ball found its way to Thomas Muller from Ali Ahmed, he takes a touch at the top of the box, and rifles it into the bottom corner of the San Jose keeper. 2-0 Caps. The Caps weren’t done quite yet, Sebastian Berhalter picks up the ball from about 35 yards out and smashes one home into the cop corner, leaving absolutely no chance for Daniel to make a save. 3-0 Whitecaps. In the 88th minute the ball skips out to Leroux off of a San Jose Corner kick, he takes a touch and blasts one past Takaoka to make it 3-1. Clearly Berhalter put on his shooting boots today, because in the 90th minute Berhalter received the ball just outside the box and had a crack one again from distance, and he once again beats Daniel to seal the deal for the Caps 4-1.
