My Thoughts On Bed Rotting

Bed rotting.

I hear a lot about this term and see it all over my social media feed and it’s exactly how it sounds. Just rotting in bed, laying down, de-stressing from your day, scrolling on your phone, whatever it may be. I’m not a fan of it. I’m actually against it.

I’m all for putting yourself first and taking time to yourself to relax and unwind, but I think this term and the way people are acting on it is getting a little out of hand and people are taking advantage of it. It’s gone too far and I think it’s time to bring it back in and increase productivity levels. I hate to put it this way, and don’t want to sound too negative but quite frankly I think it’s just an excuse to be lazy.

For me personally I’m a wake up and go type of person. Once my alarm goes off I’m up and ready to get on with my day. Sitting around in my bed scrolling on social media just gives me more anxiety. I wasn’t always like this thought. It used to be hard for me to wake up but now as soon as that alarm clock goes off, I think about what everyone else is doing – laying in bed, and that’s not how I’m going to start my day.

My social media has also been taken over by people’s bed rotting early into the night – again, I get it. You’re tired, even maybe exhausted, but really getting in bed at 6? That’s just not making the most of your day. Think about that laundry you have to fold that’s been sitting in a pile on your bedroom floor, or your 10,000 steps you have yet to reach for in a day. Is getting in bed at 6 really the best option? No. And I don’t mean to just lay it out and sound harsh but that is seriously just wasting your time. In the end of it all you only have 28,584 days on average, do you really want to spend it on scrolling on social media watching other people’s lives? Get up, go outside, get fresh air, cook, read, do something!

Trust me you will feel a lot better mentally getting out and doing something then “bed rotting” on your phone. If you’re feeling anxious or stressed, put the phone down, climb out of bed, and go for a walk, 3 simple steps to feel better.
