The Music Review: BC’s Latest Releases

It’s that time again, it’s time to talk about the latest music releases coming out of our very own beautiful British Columbia. And if you’re anything like me, listening to new music gets me so excited. Whether it’s finding a whole new energy you like or even just adding something new to spice up your playlist, I’m here for it so let’s talk about it!

Vancouver’s very own Peach Pit released a brand new album Magpie! I really enjoyed going through this album. It feels so fall, perfect for this time of year and to me all the songs are really light and fun, something you can easily just put on and chill to. One Of my favourites from Magpie was “Did You Love Somebody”, this song is so relaxing and just something you could listen to while driving, walking, chilling with friends, anything! I am a sucker for slower songs so that’s probably a reason I loved this one. Another one I really took a liking to was “Every Little Thing”. This one is one of the more upbeat ones on the album and it just put me in a good mood, it’s a happy song!

Vancouver based pop star, Jen Z released her single “Crush” and it’s a super fun song! Definitely is very girly pop-y and it brings good vibes. It kind of reminds me of more of Tate Mcrae’s pop songs which was cool. It’s upbeat, light hearted, and fun.

The Stonefruits, the punk rock band from Kamloops released their new single Potholes. It’s a slower paced rock song with calming guitar in the back. It’s a good song however not something I’d listen to on a day to day basis. But again, it is a very fall vibes song, so if you’re into slower rock, this could be a song you will want to check out.

Jon Dueling released a new single “Sukiyaki” and to be honest I didn’t think this was going to be my jam, but I ended up really liking it! I also found out that Jon will be performing at the Painted Ship in Vancouver on Wednesday the 27th, so give Jon a listen and maybe you will become a new fan and end up at the Painted Ship on Wednesday!

Carly Reirson recently released her new album called “Diary Of A Beating Heart” and before checking out these new songs I actually didn’t know who Carly was but I have to say I think I can call myself a fan now! I absolutely loved the vibe and tone of the album, it’s slower but her voice is gorgeous and the lyrics are beautiful. Some songs from this album I think you should 100% give a listen to are “Sweetest Song” and “Disappointed” both these two were my favourites from the album.

There’s a ton of great music coming out of BC lately so explore and give these songs a listen and support these local artists!
