Can you guess who’s headlining the Vancouver Playhouse in Vancouver B.C. on Friday September 20? It’s none other than our gal, Chantal Kreviazuk. The venue is located at 600 Hamilton street and the doors open at 20:00. If you don’t know much about her, allow me to provide some background. She’s born on May 18 1973 and is a Canadian singer, songwriter, composer and pianist. It’s great to see that she has so many talents that she incorporates into her music. She was born in Winnipeg and she played music from a very young age which gave her the skills and power to create such a successful career. She signed with Columbia Records in the 1990s which was a huge step in her career and brand. Her debut album, “Under These Rocks and Stones”, was released in Canada in 1996 and saw lots of success from the general public and her new fan base. Once her label saw all this success they released it in the United States the following year.
It was a no-brainer for Chantel to release more albums and that’s what she did. Under Columbia Records she released two more studio albums being Colour Moving and Still in 1999 and What if it all means something in 2002. Both of these bodies of work brought moderate success worldwide which was kind of a let down for her. I feel like artists get too confident and start releasing poor work after their debut albums do well. After her albums did moderate she decided to sign with Song BMG for her fourth album called Ghost Stories in 2006. Thankfully this album did great despite the fourth album curse. It reached number two on the Canadian albums chart. Oh what, “what’s the fourth album curse”? Well, many artists in North America release many albums but their fourth albums are usually flops. This goes for many artists and it’s been proven to be true time and time again but it’s great to see that Chantel found success in her fourth album.
From the beginning of her career to 2016, Chantel was the 51st best selling artist in Canada which is incredible for her. She grew so much as a person and found so many people who loved her.
