Latin American Heritage Month Vancouver!

October marks the Latin American Heritage Month in Canada, and the Latin American community in the Lower mainland have had many amazing events this month to celebrate. But, as Latin American Heritage Month comes to a close, what events should you go to to celebrate Latin American Heritage Month?

On the 28th and 29th you could head to the Day of the Dead Latin Market at Granville Island.

This event will be filled with food, music and costumes and will be running from 1 – 11pm. But, you might be asking, what is this event?

Well, the Day of the Dead or Dia de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday that celebrates deceased ancestors. The holiday has some similarities to Halloween, but is instead held in November and doesn’t involve the trick or treat thing. For the Day of the Dead market it is going to be held in October instead to also coincide with the Latin American Heritage month. There will be a many different vendors, with food and live entertainment as well. It is highly encouraged to dress in Catrin or Catrina costumes, which are traditional skeletons and skulls to resemble the dead. Also, there will be different performers on the 2 days so keep that in mind. Admission is free but you should register before you go. For more info click here.

November 1st there will be the Todos Los Santos or All Saints day. This will be a Guatemalan celebration, with amazing food and music to fill the event. The event will be at Ocean Art Works at 5pm, so go out and show your love. The event is free.

Last but not least, to close out Latin American Heritage Month, there will be a closing ceremony. On November 2nd there will be more celebrating of Dia de los Muertos. The event will feature a community Altar, music, food and dance. This event will also be held at Ocean Art Works at 5pm. This will be an amazing time to close out Latin American Heritage Month, so show up and have some fun.
