How does a concert for some extreme progressive metal this weekend sound?

I had to do a little research about this sub-genre because I don’t normally listen to this category of music. I think it becomes somewhat of a rabbit hole once you dig into it. From my shallow finding on the internet, I learned a bit more about this perspective of music. In the umbrella of technical progressive metal, there are also Progressive Thrash Metal, Progressive Death Metal, Progressive Black Metal, Modern Phase and Progressive Metalcore. They are all influenced by heavy metal which debuted since the early 70s with acts from Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple.

Vancouver is welcoming an Australian Extreme Progressive Metal group this weekend to perform their latest album Exul for their North American Tour 2023. Ne Obliviscaris will be at Richshaw Theatre in Vancouver this Sunday, October 29th. I think it is still not too late to get your tickets, doors will open at 6:30pm.

Ne Obliviscaris is Latin for “forget not”, and they are from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The group was founded by Marc Campbell and Adam Cooper. They currently have six members, which includes Xenoyr, the harsh vocalist, Tim Charles, the violinist and clean vocalist, Matt Klavins, the guitarist, Benjamin Baret, another guitarist, Martino Garattoni, the bassist and Kevin Paradis, the drummer. The group was formed in April 2003 and has been active since. They released four studio albums and three extended plays.

Exul is the band’s fourth album, and it was released by Season of Mist on March 24th this year. The first single from the album “Equus” is a little over twelve minutes in length and was released last December with an accompanying music video. The total length of Exul is 51 minutes and 53 seconds with six tracks. Beginning with “Equus”, “Misericorde I – As the Flesh Falls”, “Misericorde II – Anatomy of Quiescence”, “Suspyre”, “Graal” and wrapping up with “Anhedonia”.

This Sunday, the Ne Obliviscaris will be joined with special guests from Beyond Creation, a progressive technical death metal quartet from Montreal and The Omnific, a progressive instrumental trio from Melbourne.

This is the official music video of “Equus” by Ne Oblliviscaris, the first single from the Exul album.

Save the date and head over to Rickshaw Theatre on East Hastings Street in Vancouver this weekend to enjoy some extreme progressive metal.
