Digging Deep: CHASE THE BEAR

I’ve attended BCIT for over a year and have tuned in to our radio station (Evolution 107.9) many times since I first enrolled in the program! It’s been fantastic hearing classmates on the radio and songs from the various bands who get played on the station. Near the end of last year, I even got to be on the radio, providing an hourly sports update – which was lots of fun! I have always been interested in the different kinds of bands played on our station and the ones that could make our station. I want to look at one band in particular! Join me as I learn more about CHASE THE BEAR.

One of my instructors at BCIT has his podcast (Todcast Podcast) and was able to meet this group and do an interview with its members! I was invited to attend the recording, but unfortunately, I could not. I can’t wait to learn more about them and see what I had to miss out on.

Chase The Bear is a Canadian rock band formed in Fort St. John, BC, but now rocks the streets of Vancouver, BC. Chase The Bear is gaining traction in the music industry, especially in the Canadian music scene. The band is known for its energetic and bluesy rock sound, and they have released music that has received positive reviews from both fans and critics. I knew there was a reason why my teacher loved them! He was excited to meet them and told me about his great experience.

The band mixes catchy hooks, roaring electric guitars, and hard-hitting rhythms inspired by classic rock with soul and pop influences. Chase The Bear has put on a robust catalog of performances exceeding a hundred shows, and their journey included a memorable sold-out performance as the opening act for The Trews at Vancouver’s legendary Commodore Ballroom which is pretty cool!

The band was formed in 2015, so they are still pretty young. Brothers Troy and Leo Gilmore, alongside childhood friends Connor Brooks and Braedan Royer, relocated from Fort St. John, B.C., to get the band on its feet! This move was inspired by their goal of pursuing music as a career. Pursuing music is a common goal shared amongst people in the entertainment industry, but only some are willing to relocate to try their hand at this industry. It’s also impressive that two brothers are in the group, as not many siblings could work together!

I recommend visiting their official website, exploring their social media profiles, or checking out recent news articles to keep informed on this up-and-coming band!

The more I learn about this band and the individuals who have made it what it is, the more interested I become. I love digging deep into the things that are around me, and music played on BCIT is something that surrounds me! Supporting Canadians is also always a good idea!
