Disco Inferno – a new wave of interactive musicals

Disco Inferno Stage Vancouver

Disco Inferno is the only interactive disco musical in British Columbia and possibly the world! The draw of disco inferno is that you get to engage and be a part of the show. The actors perform scenes onstage and, on the floor, as well, which is where all the fun happens. The actors have leeway for how they act out scenes and will find new and innovative ways to engage the audience. Actors will break off to the side and talk to audience members while there is drama or another bigger scene in the middle of the floor. You get to make unique connections with the performers and pick sides in fun and outrageous debates.

The actors are very dedicated to their roles which can lead to some serious, heartwarming, and often very hilarious situations. Each cast member embodies their character and makes you care about the show. A big part of the plot is the conflict between the Disco Club and the newish neighbouring Sports Bar. The plot point helps everyone get invested in the scene and the plot. Sometimes you as an audience member will even be asked by characters to pick a side. The dynamics between the Disco Club and Sports Bar make the world you’re entranced in feel real.

Disco Inferno Actors

A key aspect of Disco Inferno is the interactive element. During breaks DJ True Nancy Drew and other characters would urge the audience to come up on the dance floor. Iconic and fun songs would play as the characters would teach the audience dances. Characters would do the moves up onstage so the audience could follow along. The iconic dance that was taught was called “The Hustle”. Learning it was an absolute blast and it was cool to see characters perform the same day you’d learned throughout the night.

Disco Inferno was a very fun and unique standout show. The show was put on by The Dusty Flowerpot Cabaret. It’s a local non-profit society dedicated to creating and supporting original work of physical theatre in stages and contributing to community enrichment. Unfortunately, The Dusty Flowerpot Cabaret are not having any more shows for Disco Inferno. But you you’d like to experience an interactive then you could attend Call Me Climate Change! Call Me Climate Change is the next interactive musical that The Dusty Flowerpot Cabaret is putting on. It’s a fun, introspective, and creative take on climate change that’ll keep you entertained while also making you think.
