Online Shopping Culture

It’s pretty safe to say I have an online shopping addiction.

And 99% of the time I’m not even buying anything, I’m browsing through all my favourite online shops, adding things to my cart, researching, comparing, wanting and wishing, and checking my bank account.

I know it’s not just me, shopping has gotten too easy, heck, we’re at the point you can even order food and meals through online services right to your doorstep. It has become way too easy to spend your hard earned money.

I don’t know about you but I think we can equate this massive influx in the online shopping world to COVID. Whether we’re all just collectively bored or maybe wanted to cash in our “covid checks” my spending habits kinda went through the roof and I’ve had a hard time adjusting to reality ever since.

Amazon is a prime (haha get it) example of quick and easy online shopping. I know you probably indulge in Amazon from time to time, I mean, who doesn’t? You’re lying to yourself if you haven’t reaped the benefits of Amazon and if you haven’t and been able to remain Amazon free after all this time, good on you.

Out of toothpaste? Amazon. Need some batteries? Amazon. Have a themed party to go to Friday night and it’s Thursday and you have nothing to wear? Amazon. Sometimes I can’t even grasp my head around how universal Amazon is. Seriously, it’s got it all.

So why as a world did we decide to move to online shopping. Well it’s definitely easier and more convenient. Save your gas, relax at home, and order online and have it shipped to you the next day. Sounds perfect to me. But after chatting with friends about all this online shopping we kinda realized it may not be as perfect as it seems.

We’re losing classic face to face human connection at check out lines. And this may seem little but I think it’s more big than you think. And matter of fact, those checkout clerks are slowly running out of jobs. The mix of self checkout machines and nobody physically visiting the store is creating a lack of needs for that position, not cool.

I’m making it my mission in 2025 to leave the online shopping behind and just end my laziness. It’s not only saving me and my money but also the planet and the jobs as well.
