That feeling of doom throughout the day, the sense of anxiety and anticipation, nervously awaiting that alarm on Monday. The feeling that kinda sneaks up on you during Sunday brunch or watching the game with friends. The weekend has slipped away from your fingers faster than you would’ve liked and tomorrow morning you will be back in square one, starting the week from scratch and entering 5 days of early wake ups, meetings, emails, homework, whatever it may be. I know that feeling all too well.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love what I do, school is good, work is good, friends are good, life is good, but sometimes the feeling of being stuck in a routine can be overwhelming. Sometimes I feel like it would almost be better to have no weekend, so you can’t even get a taste of what freedom and carefree living feels like. And I know it can’t be summer vacation or the weekend forever but sometimes after a really good relaxing weekend it’s a rude awakening to go back to reality so fast.
Since when did we all start having this feeling? And if you don’t have this feeling, consider yourself a real winner. The lucky group of people who seemed to have cracked the code of balancing weekend bliss and then going back to reality in the real world. While the rest of us are spending the last of the Sunday spiraling down rabbit holes you’re likely sipping on your tea, into a good book and just content. I’m jealous.
If you are in the same boat as me, feeling this sort of dread when Sunday rolls around, I got some things to help you conquer the Sunday Scaries, cause after all it’s just another weekend day that we should be enjoying, no reason to waste the day stressing about the Monday.
- Go for a walk. There’s honestly nothing as grounding as fresh air and sun on your face. And if it’s raining try not to use that as an excuse, life is about learning how to dance in the rain.
- Clean your room. Clean space, clean mind, entering the week with a clean space will do you more justice than you know.
- Plan out your week. Know what you have going on ahead of time so no deadlines jump at you the night before or even the day of, that’s unnecessary stress.
- Plan some hangouts with friends during the week. Why just wait to enjoy time with friends only on weekends? Don’t count the days, make the days. Even if it’s just a study date, try to socialize.
So here’s to Sunday and a brand new week on Monday. Let’s enter this one feeling good, leaving the Sunday Scaries behind, and embracing whatever Monday has in store. Cheers to a fresh start!
