The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) is making waves in the world of sports. Showing explosive growth and determination and empowering women by creating a new era of opportunity and visibility in professional hockey.
If you haven’t been paying attention to the PWHL it’s definitely time to and I have the breakdown to give you some quick information about the league.
As of right now the PWHL consists of 6 teams, 3 coming from Canada, and 3 from our neighbours down South. The PWHL dominates Canada’s East with the Toronto Sceptres, Ottawa Charge, and Montreal Victoire packing on the pressure. Down South you will find the Boston Fleet, New York Sirens and the Minnesota Frost controlling The States.
The PWHL point system differs a little from the NHL point system. The PWHL follows a 3-2-1-0 system.
- Regulation Win = 3
- Overtime or Shootout Win = 2
- Overtime or Shootout Loss = 1
- Regulation Loss = 0
This system brings more value to regulation wins than the NHL which uses a 2-1-0 point system.
The season runs from late November to early April and the top 4 teams will move on to the playoffs to battle it out for the Walter Cup.
The PWHL is continuing to grow and expand with a total of 159 players currently in the league coming from 9 different countries!
It’s game day! The women of the PWHL are back in action tonight!
Minnesota will visit Montreal in Place Bell arena, puck drop is at 7:00 Eastern and 4:00 Pacific. You can tune in to this game on TSN, RDS, or Fanduel.
Montreal Captain, Marie-Philip Poulin, was the first star of the week in the PWHL. Poulin has been dominating the season. Poulin is at 6 points in 9 games as of right now.
The women of the PWHL are electric on and off the ice, inspiring and empowering women and girls and being the driving force behind a brighter and more inclusive future for hockey.
