Are Mocktails In In 2025?

I used to call Thursdays “Junior Fridays” and make a night out of it.

Not tonight.

Tonight I’m watching the season finale of Barstool Survivor, ordering in food, and ending it off with taking my dogs for a walk, and to me that sounds like a well spent Thursday night during dry January. I think one of the main keys to conquering this month is to keep busy so instead of just calling it a night and bed rotting, I’m going to make the most of my night off.

I find right now I’m craving the taste of some drinks, like an Aperol, I want the bitter orange sparkling beverage or chilled crisp sauvy b. I’m not as much wanting the buzz and definitely not wanting the hangover but man do I miss the taste of some of my favourite drinks. I’ve actually come across a couple of zero proof Aperol mixes or canned mocktails trying to reach the flavour of a G and T however most of the ones I’ve come across have been from the states, so maybe it’s time to take a trip down and try something new.

My friend suggested trying out some mocktails on a night out but I can’t really justify spending $12-$15 some odd dollars on some sort of variation of juice and soda. I’ve noticed my algorithm on TikTok and Instagram has been more dry January topics and I keep getting a lot of mocktail recipes and videos about going out and enjoying a couple of mocktails. There seems to be a huge group of people on the mocktail culture train and although I’m not sold yet, never say never.

Tomorrow officially marks the halfway point and of course, it will land on a Friday. If I wasn’t completely swamped with school then I do think I’d be a little nervous about the FOMO going into this weekend but with a bunch of deadlines and projects to complete I feel like my weekend will mostly be spent on my laptop.

However I did have a girls night planned for Saturday and I know there will be drinks circulating around so maybe this is the perfect opportunity to mix up a fun little mocktail in a casual setting, or maybe I’ll even throw it back to one my of favourite drinks when I was the kid, a shirley temple – definitely cannot go wrong with that.

If you’re doing dry January I hope you’re hanging in there and congrats on basically reaching the halfway point!
