Debrusk’s Second Hat Trick

Last night, in a battle against the Detroit Red Wings, a milestone was hit by the Cancuk #74, Jake DeBrusk. They fought hard, going into overtime 4-4, Jake scoring the winning goal in overtime, his third of the game, earning him the second hat trick of his career.

“I liked the fight, scoring there with three minutes left – Bränns, nice shot. Then obviously overtime, hanging in there. Jake – what a night, three goals, I mean that was a hell of a goal there. That’s why we signed him up, for those types of moments and he came through for us,” Tocchet said.

Jake scored two powerplay goals within 43 seconds of each other! It was an incredible game for him, especially after not feeling particularly different going into this game. He explains

“It wasn’t our prettiest game, Detroit I thought played pretty decent. We had good spurts, where we were moving the puck around as a unit of five and to be able to tie it late obviously just shows what this team is becoming about. You never want to go down after having a lead going into the third period”

The canucks were having trouble finding their groove on powerplays, but this year they have been dominating now becoming a top-10 team by penalty-kill percentage over the past few weeks.

Although they have been finding their way, the Red Wings were a massive challenge on Wednesday as they applied dynamic pressure every time they gained a one-man advantage. It took special plays from Pettersson, Brännström and DeBrusk to dig the Canucks out of the hole the Red Wings power play ultimately put them in.

I’m sure many can agree the Canucks know how to deal with high-stress situations and come out on top.
