My Hot Take:

I have a hot take. I actually like Nickelback.

Nickelback

Nickelback gained a reputation for being Canada’s most hated band, however I think this hate is very unjustified. The band is originally from Alberta however calls BC home now, and they became quite the hit in the 2000s, or maybe not quite the hit I see them to be…..  In June 2023 me and a couple of my friends headed down to Rogers Arena for their concert, and WOW the hate we got just for going was unbelievable! All my co-workers couldn’t believe that I was spending money to see them live but none of that got to me – I was just so pumped to see Chad Kroeger live.

You can’t doubt it, their music can be fun, whether you’re chilling in the summer with a couple friends throwing some drinks back, or you’re hitting the karaoke stage and “How You Remind Me” is your go to song, you got to love them sometimes. And no, I don’t listen to Nickelback on a day to day basis but sometimes it just hits, when the moment is right in my opinion there is nothing wrong with a little bit of Chad and the boys.

So when did all this hate start and how did it start? Well I always hear a lot about how people think all their music sounds the same, and while you’re not entirely wrong what’s to hate so hard about that? So many of the artists I hear on the radio have similar sounding songs and albums and they don’t receive nearly half the hate that Nickelback does! Justice for Nickelback! However, giving the benefit of the doubt to you Nickelback haters out there I do agree with the fact that some of the lyrics need a little bit of … help … re wording, whatever you want to say, I do agree with the fact that some of them can be very off and sometimes just wrong. But with that being said, I’ve heard way worse lyrics come out of so many other famous rock bands’ mouths, so I think the hate is starting to get personal.

Let’s be real with each other, the songs are catchy and they can be fun. But if you haven’t really given this Canadian band a listen yet, here are some songs that you cannot skip.

Looking for a new song to bust out at karaoke night? “How You Remind Me” will be your new go to. It’s seriously so fun and gets the crowd loving you – a great chance to bring out your vocal work.

And we can’t talk about Nickelback without talking about “Rockstar” . I think everyone knows this song and if you don’t then where have you been? This song gets 10 across the board from me.

So even if you are hesitant just give these guys a shot, I promise you will enjoy their music then just a bit more than you’re anticipating 🙂
