Going to concerts has always been one of my favourite things to do in the whole wide world. Nothing beats getting to watch one of your favourite artists live in a room full of people who appreciate them and relate to the lyrics just as much as you do. I never will understand the people who just don’t like going to concerts! Like what beats a night of live music and having fun and dancing with a couple of friends? A hockey game? No way! In my 21 years of life I’ve been to my fair share of concerts in Vancouver so let’s talk about some of the best ones I’ve been to.
Growing up my dad and I spent a lot of time driving around together. From school pick ups and drop offs to after school sports, there was always music in the car. Some of the artists we listened to the most were always The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Blink182. So last year (2023) both of our dreams came true when we got to see both of those bands live. Seeing the Chilis live at BC Place exceeded every expectation I had and felt so surreal. The crowd was also unreal, such a huge range of ages and people – it really showed me how music can bring people together. I loved seeing the personalities between songs and the backdrop off the stage was a huge screen that kept changing colours which I thought was super cool. Overall it was a 10/10 concert. Seeing Blink182 on their One More Time tour was also such a cool experience. When I heard they were going on tour I was so surprised and even more surprised when I was able to score tickets and take my dad. We had an awesome time singing our hearts out and rocking out with Travis Barker in Rogers Arena.
In truth, I’ve always been a country fan at heart so seeing Morgan Wallen live in October 2023 was insane! He really knows how to put on a performance and I thought the set list was a perfect mix of some of his best hits, his newer albums and the older ones. I always appreciate when artists don’t just play the album they are going on tour with and they mix it up and Wallen did exactly that. My favourite Wallen song is “I Deserve A Drink” and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t shed a couple tears during that one.
This past summer I took my little cousins to Olivia Rodrigo and Rogers Arena. I’m not the biggest fan of pop music so going into the concert I didn’t know what to expect and was mostly going to take my little cousins since they are such big fans. Let me tell you I was so surprised with the concert. Olivia Rodrigo was amazing! She was not as pop-y as I thought and actually brought an edgy rock vibe which completely threw me for a loop since it was so unexpected. My favourite song from that night was “obsessed” the song and choregraphy was insane and she brought such a high energy to the stage everyone was obsessed.
I believe that going to concerts is like medicine. Feeling bad and it makes you feel better. So the next time you have the chance to go to a concert – even if you aren’t so into it just go! Who knows you might have the best time!
