Well, the MLB season is almost officially over with the playoff picture slowly coming to fruition, and if you’ve been living under a rock then no, the Toronto Blue Jays are not in that picture whatsoever. This season has been relatively disappointing with only a few upsides to be happy about, but what exactly went wrong this year? If you’re a Blue Jays fan like myself, then you know how gut wrenching and torturous it felt watching them play this year, at least for the most part.
Heading into the 2024 season, there was plenty of hope within the organization that this could be the year, but it slowly came to realization that we would be blessed if we were sitting in the playoff picture, but the Jays just couldn’t get into a proper groove. Coming off a wild card loss last year, while also winning the team gold glove award for the best defensive team, I can’t lie I was pretty optimistic about this year.

As of today, the Jays sit at 73-81 falling to the bottom of their division with only 8 games left in the season, hey at least they aren’t the 2024 Chicago White Sox (sorry for the stray, Chicago). It has been a relatively competitive division with the Yankees clinching a playoff spot in the past week as Aaron Judge continues his hall of fame season, and the Orioles having such a young playoff calibre team, and the Rays and Red Sox aren’t doing so hot, but they are doing enough to be considered in the playoff picture, so they have to be doing something right.
The Blue Jays have an abundance of problems, with one of them being their hitting. You know that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. can swing that bat, but the rest of the team seem to enjoy grounding into double plays, as the Jays are in the top 5 teams with the most balls grounded into double plays. Hitting ain’t the only problem, as the pitching isn’t so celebratory as well. The Jays pitching squad has given up the second most home runs this year, with even the disastrous White Sox giving up less.
Now where do the Jays go from here you ask? I have no idea but I’d like to think you see something similar to the trade deadline this year, as Toronto shipped out many players, which brought in some new young talent to spice up the roster for the years to come. I don’t know about you but I say the team MUST test out the trade market with Bo Bichette, and g=bring in some more depth to the bullpen. What have you learned? The biggest takeaway you should have from this season is to never be overconfident, especially in the Toronto Blue Jays.
