Wednesday, September 25 it’s going down! The iconic “Single Mothers” band is coming to The Cobalt, Vancouver, B.C. The venue is located at 917 Main Street and the doors open at 19:00. Now, this band’s name is quite interesting and if you’ve never heard of them before it might be a bit awkward for you to hear without context. So, I’ll provide some background on this band. Band member: Andrew Thompson created this band in 2008 after he went through a heartbreak. I feel like heart break brings out a side of us that evolves our way of thinking and creativity. The band released two EP’s when they first started. The EP’s were: Wild Party (2010), and Single Mothers (2011). The second EP was pushed a lot by the group since it was their self-titled album. This EP had fully marketed singles that came with music videos. The most recognizable songs in this EP were: “Christian Girls and “Baby”. The band headlined a tour in the U.S a year after they released their self titled album which was again, very successful. I feel like when artists first start their career it’s important to build a fanbase early on. Once you build a fanbase you can headline tours and market yourself more which creates more success and benefits the brand itself.
The founder of the band, Andrew Thompson ended up leaving the band. I know, plot twist! He quit in 2011 to prospect for gold in Ontario. His father noticed that Andrew was around the wrong people and his life wasn’t doing the best. Andrew was originally going to Ontario for a few months but he ended up loving it there and stayed for three years. When he was in Ontario he still recorded music. He also released a four song EP titled “Honesty is a confidence problem”. He later reunited with the band and started working on their debut album.
