UnexpectedMove: Blue Jays Fans Outraged by “Home Plate Lady’s” New Spot

When it comes to baseball, we all know that every little detail of the stadium adds to the game experience. But when the Blue Jays decided to move the iconic “Home Plate Lady” to a new spot after renovating Rogers Centre, the fans were not pleased at all. Let’s dive into this drama!

Who Is the Home Plate Lady?

For those out of the loop, the Home Plate Lady is that symbolic fan of the Blue Jays. She’s been a fixture for years with her serious demeanor and strategic spot right behind home plate, visible to everyone. She even got a cardboard cutout tribute during the border closure in the pandemic. Picture this: she returns to live games in 2021, and the whole stadium stands up to applaud her. That’s some serious respect, right?

Rogers Centre Renovation: Looks Good, Costs More!

The stadium underwent a renovation costing a whopping $400 million. Sure, there were improvements that got some praise, but they shuffled the layout so much that even the seasoned ticket holders are paying more for less appealing seats. And what about the Home Plate Lady, moved to a less visible corner? The big question is whether it was her choice or not. From the fans’ reactions, it seems like the Blue Jays are more focused on making money than maintaining fan loyalty.

More Than Just a Seat

The Home Plate Lady is more than just a regular fan; she’s part of the team’s soul. And even with the thrilling victory over the Mariners, the fans are still focused on her saga.

She might not care much about the change, but she’s become a symbol of the fans’ frustration with renovations that, no matter how expensive, can’t replace the human essence that sports carry.

The renovation brought some new stuff, but is it worth it if it means losing touch with the people who really make a difference in the stands?

  1. I miss the blue jay lady,I feel that she represents a lot of us older people who are not able to go to the games,I watch all of the games and look forward to seeing her ,somehow I feel a small part of me is there at the game with her .My husband and I look for her and when she is not there we worry about her , hope she is ok..
Sincerely, a great fan of the lady and the jays

  2. I do not like the new seating arrangement and HomePlate Lady definitely needs a better seat. Saw one time a very large man sitting in front of her. She seemed to be having some trouble seeing the game. They say she picked that seat, she would be better in the 1st or 2nd row. Haven’t seen her in awhile, hope she is doing ok…❤️

  3. Where is Home Plate Lady? We watch all the games and have bot seen her in a long time. She is not in her new seat

  4. They should bring the home plate lady back to her original seat. Even if the seat is more expensive they should let her have it at what she had paid before the renovation. Then the Blue Jays will start winning again.

  5. It is a real shame they removed the iconic presence behind home plate. I predict the karma will be similar to that when the Red Sox traded the Babe. It’s already started if this year’s play is any indicator.

  6. I didn’t like the Home Plate Lady’s new seats, whether it was her decision or not, she should have had front row seating. Even if the Jays had to anti up. My concern now is that she isn’t at many games. Is it because the new seats are hard for her to get to. Has she moved to seats better suited to her needs. Inquiring minds want to know!

  7. The seating is terrible . Sure there is lots of room but fans can’t visit back and forth. It seems cold and quiet. The old familiar faces aren’t there. Where is our lovely lady seated????? She was always behind home plate and now we rarely see her or her friends and family. They are not even in their new designated seats.

  8. My husband and I are regular Jays fans. We are both appalled with the renovations that the Jays made. The first thing we both did before the game would start is try to beat each other as to who saw her first lol. God love you Home Plate Lady!! We miss seeing you at the balls games very much. If you can’t stay helping out our seniors as far as we look at it, it’s useless!! Please come back to the games!!! We are not only fans of the Jays, we have become fans of you as well!!! ❤️

  9. Please ask SN to widen their home plate camera view so that we can see the Home Plate Lady. It’s not the same without her.

  10. I don’t like where they have seated homeplate lady. That is nowhere near homeplate. She needs to be front & center at homeplate! That is maybe why she hasn’t been attending any games in the past few weeks. Please give her a great seat at homeplate.

  11. Traditions are important. Just like a year without a home run jacket that meant a lot to the team, and gave them something special to shot for when at bat, the home plate lady also meant a lot to the end score in many games. Now she is seldom ever at games, in the new seat. Begs to wonder why !

  12. Behind the plate at blue jays games creates a poor first impression for television. The plush theatre style seats are never full, they are noticeably even less inhabited prior to the third inning, and start emptying after the fifth, depending on score. “Fans” are noticeably not interested in the game. The whole impression is one of entitlement rather than sports fans.
