Meet the Bankes Brothers. This Victoria-based band is no stranger to the BC indie-rock music scene. The band has been performing around the country for years, and now, they are announcing a new single that will be released at the end of this month.
The Bankes Brothers is a four-piece band with brothers Nelson and Morgan Bankes on vocals and guitar, Carson Cleaver on lead guitar, and Gray Oxley on drums. The four guys met in high school, and realized that they are musically aligned. So, one Friday night in 2017 in a pool hall, they decided to form a band. It was a great decision because less than a week later, they got their first gig. Since then, the band has had many performing opportunities where they can hone their skills and become tighter as a group. As a result, The Bankes Brothers landed a residency at the Canoe Club in 2019. Unfortunately 2020 came, and we all know what happened that year. Being deprived from live performance opportunities, the band channeled their creative energy into writing fresh songs. And when the world opened back up again, The Bankes Brothers returned with a refined sense of direction and purpose. That led to the band’s biggest project to date. An EP called “In Waves”.

“In Waves” is a six-track EP that The Bankes Brothers recorded in collaboration with indie legend producer, Steve Bays. And if I can describe their music using three words, I would say: full of joy. With driving guitars, energetic drums, and Nelson Bankes’ bright and bold voice, you can feel the dopamine boost and positivity coming out of every single note. The band has released three singles from their EP, including “Things I’ll Never Learn”, “C’est La Vie”, and the EP’s title song, “In Waves”. And on November 24, 2023, they will be releasing their fourth single, “How Long”. Based on the teaser that the band posted on its social media, it’s going to be a nice mid-tempo song that you can listen to while you’re chilling with your pals.
