2023 Early Music Vancouver Summer Festival – WOMENinSIGHT

Are you looking for an inclusive music festival in Vancouver? Then check out the 2023 Early Music Vancouver Summer Festival! The Festival was previously known as the Vancouver Bach Festival but had taken on a new name and theme. The theme for the event is WOMENinSIGHT which aims to celebrates women composers, librettists, and performers of the past and present. The theme change was inspired by the work of a stellar 12th-century writer named Christine de Pizan. She used her work to explore and question the centuries old disregard and poor treatment of women. The purpose of WOMENinSIGHT is to empower female voices by exploring the impact and role women had throughout history. Which will of course be done in a thought provoking and entertaining way through the medium of music.

The Early Music Vancouver Summer Festival concerts brings together renowned artists that specialize in early music. For those curious Early Music is usually comprised of 500-1400’s Medieval music, 1400-1600’s Renaissance music, and can occasionally include 1600-1750’s Baroque music. The music originated in Europe and early music is basically a broad term for the beginning era of Western Classical music. Anyways the festival will bring these spectacular arts from all around the globe to perform their specialty onstage. To pair with this year’s theme the main focus of the festival will be on the female artists. Particularly the incredible women that hold the torch and impact not only the industry but the music scene and beyond.

the 2023 Early Music Vancouver Summer Festival has brought in a total of over 60 artists from all around the globe. The festival will include a total of 11 concerts and even a very special and intriguing fundraising event. There are so many thrilling and exciting events to check out! Like The Queen of Carthage, the 2023 Festival Artist-in-Residence, Catalina Vicens, and so much more. The 2023 Early Music Vancouver Summer Festival starts on July 27th and ends on August 26th. The events will take place at various venues in the Vancouver area and tickets are sold separately. Ticket prices vary for each event but there are early bird passes on sale now from April 3rd to May, so I’d highly recommend grabbing some while they are in stock. Prices range anywhere from $19 to $68 for early bird tickets.
