The music of Canadian alternative band Fake Shark – Real Zombie is distinctive for its combination of genres such as pop, rock, electronica, and even some hip-hop. Kevvy Mental on lead vocals, Louis Wu on guitar, Tony Dallas on bass, and Jake Fox on drums established the band in 2006 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Fake Shark – Real Zombie has always been an aesthetically and sonically distinct band. In addition to gloomy subjects like addiction, mental health, and social isolation, their music is also marked by appealing melodies, rich harmonies, and humorous lyrics. Live performances include high-octane performances, bright costumes, and strange visuals that often include puppets, masks, and other props.

The release of “Zebra Zebra” in 2008 was a major turning point for the band. The album’s innovative composition and production, which fused electronic rhythms with live instruments, won widespread praise. Their breakthrough smash track “Angel Lust” got them a nomination for Best New Group at the 2009 Juno Awards in Canada.

Fake Shark – Real Zombie has changed and expanded its musical palette throughout the years. While their 2010 album “Liar” featured a more aggressive and punk-influenced sound, their 2013 album “How Do You Like Me Now, Barely Alive!” featured more hip-hop and R&B influences.

Produced by Steve Bays of Hot Hot Heat, the band’s fourth album “Faux Real” was released in 2017. Single “Heart 2 Heart” was among the most radio-friendly tracks on the album. Band members made sure that “Something Special” and “Cheap Thrills” remained true to the band’s usual brand of oddness and unpredictability.

Fake Shark – Real Zombie has, despite a modest fanbase outside of Canada, amassed a devoted following over the years because to their exciting live performances and creative music videos. The band has worked with musicians including Lights and Tokyo Police Club, and has toured widely throughout North America, Europe, and Asia.

The band Fake Shark – Real Zombie is difficult to label because of the eclectic combination of musical genres and sounds that make up its sound. There’s something in their music for listeners of all musical tastes, whether you like pop, rock, electronic, or hip-hop. The band keeps breaking new ground and making their own unique mark on the Canadian music landscape with their boundless enthusiasm and bold imagination.
