Half Moon Run is a Montreal, Quebec-based indie rock band well-known for their explosive live shows and unique sound. Devon Portielje, Conner Molander, Dylan Phillips, and Isaac Symonds, four multi-instrumentalists, created the band in 2009.

They made their debut in 2012 with the critically acclaimed album “Dark Eyes,” which combined elements of folk, rock, and electronica. Singles from the album, such as “Full Circle” and “Call Me in the Afternoon,” helped the band earn fans throughout the globe.

Half Moon Run’s music is distinguished by rich harmonies, complicated rhythms, and unusual instrumentation, which often features the mandolin, marimba, and upright bass. Their sound draws from a broad variety of sources, including classic rock, electronic music, and traditional folk music, and their songs sometimes take surprising turns.

The band’s second album, 2015’s “Sun Leads Me On,” displayed their musical development and experimentation to that point. The studio sessions took place in the mountains of British Columbia, and the album’s sound reflects the stunning scenery outside.

Each member of Half Moon Run sings lead and plays numerous instruments throughout each of their energetic and engaging live performances. Their live shows are a celebration of the band’s distinctive sound and the improvisational energy they generate together.

Half Moon Run’s 2019 third studio album, “A Blemish in the Great Light,” received high marks from reviewers for its heartfelt sound and thoughtful lyrics. Both “Then Again” and “Flesh and Blood,” two of the album’s songs, demonstrated the band’s development as composers.

Half Moon Run has stayed humble and dedicated to their music despite their widespread fame. They’ve continued their rigorous touring and sonic exploration, challenging themselves and their fans with each new release.
