Vancouver was the first place in Canada where I wanted to reside and where I soon fell in love. Thanks to a well-balanced combination of modern urban elements and stunning natural scenery, it’s also one of the most livable. That’s not to say the rest of Canada isn’t fantastic; there are many beautiful spots to visit around the country, but Vancouver is unquestionably at the top of the list, with better weather than the rest of the country. If you are looking forward to staying or visiting Vancouver, this is absolutely the right article.
Lynn Canyon
Both suspension bridges in Vancouver are equally stunning, but one is often busy with tourists and expensive, while the other is more popular with locals and accessible! Lynn Canyon Park, located in the heart of Lynn Valley, has been delighting hikers for over a century! Trails, popular swimming spots, gorgeous waterfalls, and, of course, a hair-raising suspension bridge 50 meters up in the canopy make this a must-see, regardless of how brief your visit is. If you enjoy nature, you will undoubtedly want to go there.
Stanley Park
Stanley Park is a lush peninsula with large trees that runs beside Center City. A paved seawall path surrounds the green space, making it a fantastic place to tour walking or cycling. There are numerous spectacular panoramas throughout the park, either directly towards the city or out to the ocean. The park’s gardens and flowers burst into a rainbow of stunning colors in the springtime. In the summer, an outdoor pool is located right on the beach. This is the most pleasing area to visit in Vancouver if you want to get outside and enjoy some nature.
Grouse Mountain
Grouse Mountain provides an unrivaled view in both winter and summer when the weather is clear. This is especially true when the city lights are turned on in the evenings. Tourists and locals may witness the jaw-dropping gorgeous scenery of British Columbia unfold in front of them on the legendary Red Skyride during the 8-minute trek from Valley Station to the peak. Grouse Mountain is home to the National Wildlife Refuge and research, education, and conservation center. There’s also an electronic cinema in the sky that broadcasts a range of wildlife-related movies, including Extremely Wild, a Discovery Channel documentary about Grouse’s two local brown bears.
Grouse Mountain is a hiker’s paradise in the summer, with paths including the fabled Grouse Grind, often known as “Mother Nature’s StairMaster.”
Canada Place
In the center of Vancouver’s waterfront, Canada Place is an impressive sight and a location for world affairs and, inspirationally, Canadian experiences. The distinctive roof shape evokes the image of a massive sailing ship. The striking tower serves as a cruise ship terminal, a meeting center and hotel, and a transportation hub for sightseeing bus trips. A magnificent waterfront walk towards Stanley Park begins. You’ll witness seaplanes land safely along the road, as well as big seagoing cargo vessels heading out to sea.
Granville Island
Granville Island, once primarily industrial, is today a flourishing center of activity with a pleasant and distinct vibe. Along with houseboats, theatres, galleries, and restaurants, artists and retailers have moved into repurposed warehouses.
Various exhibits, including fruit, vegetables, delightful products, bread, cakes, biscuits, and food stalls with multiple cuisines, are accessible on the central market. There are many outdoor/patio spots had fantastic views of the port. From Granville Island, you can see False Creek, Stanley Park, and downtown Vancouver. Granville Island is a must-see for anybody visiting Vancouver for the first time.
Vancouver Island
The Pacific Rim National Park and British Columbia’s first Provincial Park, Strathcona, are both located on Vancouver Island. The two excellently illustrate the landscape diversity here, with magnificent beaches and rainforests onshore and serene lakes and highlands in the interior. Butchart Gardens is a must-see on Vancouver Island. All year long, these magnificent gardens provide visitors with the opportunity to experience a tranquil natural setting complete with flowers, trees, and roads. Christmas lights and decorations are on show in the gardens throughout the holidays, and there are various festivities and events, including outdoor ice skating.
Tofino, a tiny village on Vancouver Island’s west coast, is regarded as a jewel. Although this small fishing community on Vancouver Island is a popular tourist attraction, it is rarely crowded. It’s also renowned as Canada’s hottest surf hotspot, with visitors arriving all year to surf. Whale watching, birding, and fishing are all popular activities on Vancouver Island.
Gastown
This is the city’s oldest district, but it’s been lovingly restored so that inhabitants and visitors may enjoy it for years to come. The meticulously restored Victorian buildings in this area of town are intriguing, and the restaurants and businesses housed within them are much more so.
If you’re in the region and want to go for a quick stroll, eat at a fantastic restaurant, or buy souvenirs, Gastown is an excellent spot to go. There are cute shops, terrific places to shop, and beautiful places to eat along Water Street, the district’s main road.
The area’s world-famous steam clock is also located in Gastown. It is extremely popular with tourists. The clock, which was built in 1977, is one of just a few steam clocks on the globe. It’s pretty cool, especially when it whistles and exhales steam. The corners of Cambie Street and Water Street and Richards and Water Street will host Gastown Unplugged entertainers in 2021. Musicians can also be found performing on Abbott Street and at Maple Tree Square.
So set aside a half-day or a full day to just wander. Take a photo with Gassy Jack, the man who built this section of town, and pay a visit to the Steam Clock. Aside from that, just take in the ambiance created by the cobblestone streets and iron lampposts. If you want to stay in Gastown and take in the atmosphere, there are a couple of great hostels.
