YVR Pop Choir, creates parody of Dolly Parton’s hit song Jolene about the COVID-19 vaccine.

During a time with the vaccine rollout in British Columbia and upcoming summer weather, the YVR Pop Choir and Chorus Studio released a COVID-19 vaccine parody of Jolene Dolly Parton’s number one hit song, which is inspired by Dolly Parton’s own parody of the song she released back in March after she got vaccinated.

The 60-person choir pokes fun at quarantine life during the song/music video with lines like “stay-at-home has gotten old, I’m so sick of my cat’s butthole,” which is an interesting line, to say the least. I have cats, and I can say their buttholes were not in my face, so I can’t attest to that line but staying at home has 100 percent gotten old. “I’m running out of shows to binge” is also a 100 percent true line. Sure there’s plenty of options, but it’s hard to find that show that you finish three seasons in one day (badly waiting for Stranger Things to return). “My COVID haircut makes me cringe” is another clever line. I, too, like probably a lot of people, had my significant other cut my hair, and while it did its job, it wasn’t the best (sorry, honey). In the video, some choir members are actually cutting their hair which props to you brave souls cutting your hair for a music video. Then the song transitions into encouraging you to go and get your vaccine. So much so there’s a line, “We’re almost there, we’re almost free… Don’t you **** it up for me,” which is definitely a statement to have.

The music video also has a clever character named the Vaccinator, a knock-off Terminator, decked out with a black jacket, black sunglasses, and black gloves holding a syringe-like a belt-fed minigun. All in all, it’s a well-done parody, and I’m one of the lucky people who were able to get fully vaccinated, so I’m with the get your vaccine train to return back to normal!
