When you apply for a Commons account, you can choose a basic web hosting account or to have WordPress pre-installed. WordPress is a widely used, open source web publishing platform. In particular, using WordPress will make it easy for you to be publishing or blogging quickly with no technical knowledge.
This is not intended to provide you with general WordPress support or blogging advice. If you are unfamiliar with the basics, this is a good overview of blogging on wordpress.org.
What you can do with WordPress
Since WordPress is a publishing tool for a Commons account, all Commons account rules apply. Most of the BCIT Commons sites presently using WordPress are projects where sharing content quickly, user comments/feedback and the other social features of WordPress are desireable.

The key thing to remember is that any Commons site, WordPress or not, must not duplicate content already published on BCIT’s public web site. If you are looking for help in using WordPress at BCIT, take a look at our theming overview next.
Please note: BCIT Commons is a self-publishing space with minimal support. If your project requires any custom design support, please use BCIT’s public web site and contact your departmental or school Marqui editor/publisher.
