BCIT Civil Engineering faculty Sudip Talukdar has had the paper “Hemp Waste Valorization as Biofuel and Cement Replacement in Cement and Concrete Production” accepted in Springer Journals ‘Waste and Biomass Valorization’ publication. The manuscript (manuscript number, WAVE-D-19-01244R1) was based on the results of the Hemp Incineration Project which 4th year Civil Engineering Bachelor of Engineering students Spencer Behn and Kumayl Rashid worked on for their Civil Engineering applied research project last year. ‘Waste and Biomass Valorization’ is a peer reviewed journal published by Springer, with a solid impact factor of 2.38.
This project is a good example of the type of collaboration possible between different post-secondary education institutions, BCIT and UBC, industry (Nextleaf Solutions), and dedicated BCIT students. Funding for this project was provided by an NSERC Engage grant. This research has also resulted in the sponsoring company filing a patent based on the results of the study.
The manuscript is available online
Congratulations to Sudip, his co-authors, and the BCIT students involved!
