Six Yamagata University researchers plus five Yamagata research students visited BCIT during the week of Nov 20-24. This visit was a result of an MOU signed last year to promote exchange among faculty, students about their research projects.

On Monday, Nov 20 the Japanese delegation toured the Annacis Island Campus where the Japanese students tried the Heavy Equipment Operator simulation lab. The group was then transported over to Richmond where they enjoyed a tour of BCIT’s Aerospace Facility.

The Applied Research Liaison Office (ARLO) arranged presentations from Yamagata University and BCIT researchers on Wednesday, Nov 22 in Town Square A where Kim Dotto , Dean, Applied Research welcomed the delegation to BCIT. Presentations from BCIT researchers included: Dr Fitsum Tariku (SOCE), Dr Kristi McIntosh (SOH), Dr Neil Cox (SOE), Dr David Holloway (SoCAS) and Dr James Booth (SoCAS). Yamagata research presenters included: Dr Hidemitsu Furukawa, Dr Tsukasa Yoshida, Dr Takashi Mineta and Dr Ajit Khosla.

After the morning presentations the researchers spent time touring the Energy Oasis Project then headed over to the Centre for Applied Research and Innovation (CARI) to meet with the SMART team, and six Yamagata University and five BCIT students displayed their research posters in Town Square A, where students and faculty from BCIT and Yamagata discussed their research projects.
