Dr. Kim Dotto , Dean of Applied Research signed a MOU with the University of the West Indies on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at the High Commission of Canada in Jamaica.
The MOU between BCIT and emPOWERed Caribbean Communities, has launched the Caribbean Energy Solutions Research Institute (CESRI), an energy studies unit for the Caribbean located in Jamaica.
CESRI will conduct much-needed research and provide technical assistance to support energy sector planning within Jamaica and the rest of the Caribbean, with specific focus on the electricity sub-sector in the first instance.
“The MOU originated around the BCIT Smart Microgrid, but quickly became apparent that there are many other areas of collaboration between BCIT, emPOWERed Caribbean Communities and the Caribbean Energy Solutions Research Institute (CESRI)” says Dr. Kim Dotto , Dean of BCIT’s Applied Research. “Moving forward I can envision many projects involving not only research, but also with other schools here at BCIT. I think that this is an exciting opportunity for BCIT and again confirms “the world needs more BCIT”.
