BCIT Centre for Applied Research & Innovation (CARI) opened its doors to members of the German Canadian Business Association on Tuesday, October 18, 2016.
Dr. Tom Roemer, BCIT VP of Academic welcomed Mr. Josef Beck, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany. Mr. Beck provided the opening remarks for the German Canadian Business Association Fall Event held at BCIT.
The event offered the opportunity for guests to network with BCIT researchers and tour labs – which included the RED lab, the new Softshop, Dr. Tong Louie Living Laboratory/MoCap and CARI.

Over the years the MAKE+ initiative has hosted many German and French graduate students who conducted their project work in this unique setting.
Applied Research MAKE+ team uses a similar model to Germany’s very successful Fraunhofer Institutes, the full-time interdisciplinary team creates synergies between engineers, designers and technicians to solve real word problems and grow the BC economy. Their user-centered design approach has helped clients such as Rostrum Medical Innovations, Claris Healthcare and Purdy’s Chocolates develop innovative products and refine manufacturing processes.
