PEDAL-POWERED TRIKE DELIVERIES LAUNCH WITH LOCAL, ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY OFFICE SUPPLIER, MILLS BASICS.
(Vancouver, BC) Mills Basics and Shift urban cargo delivery cordially invite members of the media for an on site press conference and photo opportunity of their new partnership and zero-emissions delivery vehicles. Mills Basics is launching deliveries to offices around Vancouver by using Shift’s innovative new service. Shift is deploying unique, heavy-duty cargo trikes, each carrying up to 600 lbs of goods, to replace truck deliveries in the downtown core. The trikes operate 100% emissions-free.
Members of the media will witness these eye-catching trikes in action, which will be photographed publicly for the first time since they have been upgraded and branded. Mills began with deliveries by bicycle, and now it has come full circle over 60 years later. Mills Basics CEO Brad Mills and Shift founding member Loretta Laurin will be on site for interview and comment.
When: Monday August 15, 2011. Photo opportunity at 10 AM. Press interviews at 10:30 AM.
Where: Mills Basics Warehouse and Head Office, 1111 Clark Drive, Vancouver, BC V5L 3K5
About Mills Basics:
A lot has changed since Don Mills first opened his doors in 1949; however the Mills family of employees still continues to deliver office supplies with quality, satisfaction, and value. In the beginning, the business relied on bicycle and interurban transit to do deliveries. Today, Mills Basics operates on an aggressive carbon reduction policy and is one of the last locally owned and operated office supply teams in BC.
About Shift urban cargo delivery:
Shift is the first business of its kind in Canada, replacing delivery trucks and vans with zero-emission cargo trikes. Its founding members developed the innovative business plan in a Simon Fraser University course on social enterprises and sustainable development. Shift is demonstrating that cargo trike deliveries are a more efficient and appropriate technology for urban distribution, and contributing to Vancouver’s goal to become the greenest city in the world. As a worker co-operative, the business is owned and democratically operated by its workers. Shift is the recipient of a Generation Green Award for youth developing sustainable ideas from the Vancouver Foundation; as well as the recipient of a Greenest City Neighbourhood Grant from the City of Vancouver.
