About Nancy Paris:

Nancy became the Director of BCIT’s Health Technology Research Group (HTRG) in September of 1996. Since 1989, she has been involved in the development of medical and assistive devices and helping to build the health technology community in BC. In 2008 the HTRG merged with the Automation and Electronics research group to become the Product and Process Applied Research Team (PART) which Nancy now directs. As the Director of PART Nancy leads a diverse team of professionals in research, development, evaluation and commercialization of a wide range of consumer and industrial mechanical, electronic and textile products.

Highlights of her achievements include managing over $2.7 million in externally sponsored applied research over the period 1999-2004. She was Principal Investigator for the development of BCIT’s patient lift device, funded by WorksafeBC research grants totaling more than $410,000. She also initiated the development of BCIT’s first Commercialization Office supported by Western Economic Diversification (Principle Officer of $778,282 contract including $337,901 requested of WED over three years). From 1990-92 she worked on the development and evaluation of a novel hip and knee joint system to treat infection that was licensed to Depuy of Johnson and Johnson in 1999. Her most recent achievement is the creation of her own company, Peak Interiors, with her partner, Ryan Kanigan.

Nancy has expertise in all phases of health technology development including design requirements, conceptual design, detailed design, fabrication, verification and validation. Nancy’s management consulting skills include issue identification, issue analysis, model development and evaluation, and strategic planning processes. Nancy also has experience founding and operating an assistive technology company. Lastly, Nancy has experience in building long-term partnerships with organizations and institutions with similar goals and objectives.
