BCIT is on the lookout for students that have an idea or invention that could change the world. The second annual BCIT Student Innovation Challenge is offering students the perfect platform to showcase their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit.
This year’s Challenge offers the winner $5,000 cash.
The contest is once again being organized by the Applied Research Liaison Office (ARLO) at BCIT and aims to connect students with BCIT’s commercialization expertise and services.
“Ideally, we are looking for a student to come up with a concept that could eventually turn into a commercialized product or business,” says Gerald Narciso, the School and Industry Liaison Strategist at ARLO. “But more importantly, we just want to challenge our students and present them with an opportunity.”
Last year, the Challenge winner received a $1,000 honorarium and up to $4,000 in BCIT commercialization services. This time around, the winner takes home $5,000 cash and the runner up receives a new Apple iPad courtesy of Best Buy.
“We really wanted to put together an attractive prize package, just so that we can give them that extra incentive to participate,” adds Narciso.
The contest opens today and is accepting submissions until Friday, May 6. Students can submit their idea to ARLO.
A judging panel made up of BCIT faculty and staff will select the top five entries to move to the second phase. The selected entrants will then pitch their projects to the judging panel. See the full contest details here.
