2019 Challenge

In 2019, students from the  Fish, Wildlife and Recreation, Forest and Natural Areas Management, Ecological Restoration, Environmental Engineering, Geomatics, Architectural Science  and Civil Engineering programs  were tasked with developing a conceptual design and plan for the southern area of the BCIT Burnaby Campus.

Students worked as teams with a representative from each of the programs to develop a conceptual design and plan for the southern half of the BCIT Burnaby Campus that incorporated the institute goals for the campus as well as 8 of the EcoCity Standards.  The design was to build on past, current and immediate future initiatives at BCIT which included, but were not limited to:

  • CERCA and Guichon Creek proposals from last year’s Challenge
  • BCIT campus plan and 5 year capital plan
  • ArchSci CERCA planning exercise and resultant plans
  • Ecological Restoration wetland plan for south campus area
  • Factor Four

Students from the Accounting, Finance, and Insurance program in the School of Business and the  Indigenous Centre supported the event as mentors, judges and hosts.  The indigenous centre hosted a welcome dinner on the night before the event began as part of a team building and welcome event where students were introduced to one another, organized into teams and invited to participate in a number of activities and discussions about campus, the indigenous center and indigenous student life on campus and perspectives.

Take the Challenge!

We hope to offer this event in the future. With the COVID 19 pandemic, this event is on hold but check back next year for updates!
