BCIT students in the Ecological Restoration degree program obtained their certification in electrofishing during a 3 day training session on April 12-14. All of the students attended a 1 day lecture at BCIT on electrofishing theory, and then practiced what they learnt during field trials in the headwaters of the Serpentine River on April 13 and 14, where they applied their newly acquired skills and knowledge. The VIU instructors then had students write their final exam for certification as electrofishing crew member or crew leader. The weather cooperated, and the VIU staff were able to certify 12 student each morning, and 12 students each afternoon. The BCIT ER students are now certified and ready to fish!
