Overview:
Welcome to the next phase of your life plan, retirement. You can continue your journey of association with higher education in the province of British Columbia by joining the BCITRA. We have memberships available for retired BCIT employees (Active Memberships) and for spouses of active members, younger BCIT employees and other post secondary employees or retirees at least 50 years of age (Associate Memberships). For more information please refer to the Governance section of this website under BCITRA Constitution, Part 2 Membership. We aim to maintain an ongoing connection among people with a common background and a common stage of life.
Who we are:
Most of our members have retired from BCIT and wish to continue relations with their former place of work and the people within it. We are not all work anymore and provide lots of social networking opportunities. We have activities, events, holiday get-togethers and workshops planned throughout the year. We also stage an annual AGM to inform members about what has happened in the year and what is anticipated to happen in the year to come. Typical events have included monthly pub lunches, seasonal lunches in December and April and informative workshops delivered by The Wellness arm of COSCO which is an advocacy group for seniors. We now communicate with members by electronic means and send out announcements to all members periodically as needed.
Our Vision:
One of our primary aims is to support BCIT students on an ongoing basis. To that end we have established the BCITRA Endowment Fund. This provides capital which generates interest used for bursaries to help students with their BCIT education. This has proven to be a worthy endeavor over time. We contribute to this fund from membership dues and extra contributions from members. We encourage members to support this fund and to support other members. As members we can contribute to the community and add value to our own life and to others. All of our goals are listed in the BCITRA Constitution and Bylaws section Part 1 Function.
Thank you for your interest in our organization.
