DEM38 Induced EMF

Objective:

– To Demonstrate Induced EMF.

Apparatus:

  • “Hammond Organ Tone Wheel” custom board
  • “Guitar String” custom board
  • “Marshall Stack” amplifier
  • Twisted Leads
  • Straight Banana Leads
  • 2 banana leads (red and black) or passive probe (hook tip probe with alligator ground clip)
  • Tektronix 2205 Oscilloscope

Wave forms between twisted and banana leads Induced EMF with tonewheel and vibrating spring apparatus

Method:

Notes:

Watch the following YouTube video for a detailed explanation of this demonstration.

The speaker is battery powered. There is no need to connect to a power adapter.

The lab illustrates that either the vibrating spring and rotating tone wheel will create induced EMF due to the changing magnetic flux in them.

Connect the speaker jack to the speaker and two red and black leads to either custom board.

The speaker will convert the electrical energy created by the induced EMF to the sound energy.

This lab also gives an opportunity to show that twisted leads provide better noise cancellation/electromagnetic interference from the surrounding than normal banana leads.
