The British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) is pleased to welcome Susannah (Su) Skerl as Associate Dean of Digital Arts, Media and Design in the School of Business + Media. Su, a proud BCIT alum herself, brings a wealth of expertise and enthusiasm to her new role.
“I am excited to be joining BCIT School of Business + Media’s Digital Arts, Media and Design team, and to explore all of the ways that our programs can connect and collaborate with our academic, community and industry partners,” shares Su. “As a lifelong learner and BCIT graduate myself, I am most keen to support and celebrate the incredible work of our faculty, staff and students – there are so many stories to share!”
In addition to Su’s BCIT credential, she holds an MBA with a specialization in the Management of Technology from Simon Fraser University, which reflects her commitment to both the creative and business aspects of the digital arts industry. With a remarkable 25-year career, Su has excelled in various roles spanning artistic, production, strategy, and operations within the creative technology sector. Her expertise encompasses game development and publishing, animation, and agency settings, where she has played a pivotal role in scaling up multiple independent studios and successfully delivering projects.
Beginning her academic journey in 2005, Su has contributed significantly to education, taking on teaching roles at BCIT and Vancouver Film School. At the Art Institute of Vancouver, she served as a full-time faculty member and assumed the role of Interim Academic Director for the Game Art and Design program. Most recently, Su held dual positions at the Centre for Digital Media, serving as the Associate Director of Strategic Partnerships and as Faculty for Internships and Venture Projects.
Su’s commitment extends beyond the academic and professional realms. She has been an active contributor and supporter of volunteer-led communities such as Diversity in Games, Full Indie, Spark CG Society, as well as industry-level advocacy organizations like DigiBC and Creative BC. Su is dedicated to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion to strengthen creative communities.
Residing in Vancouver with her partner Jason, also in academia, and their daughter Pixel, a budding digital artist and animation enthusiast, Su enjoys engaging in crafting, drawing, and gaming together as a family. Her multifaceted background and passion for both the arts and technology make her an exceptional addition to our team.
Welcome, Su!
