Our People: Rosmin Gilani, Administrative Assistant, School of Energy

Putting people at the core of everything we do is paramount at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. We are committed to ensuring our people — those who make BCIT distinct, are developing while feeling valued, supported, and connected.

BCIT is a people-first organization.  We aim to celebrate our employees by sharing their stories through the Our People series. The series features BCIT’s extraordinary employees who share a strong sense of pride and ambition for the Institute and make up our diverse community.

I meet the students at orientation on their first day at BCIT when they are shy and timid. I see them grow into confident young men and women over the 2-4 years of their time here and then finally at the finish line, when they graduate. I am honoured be a part of their journey.

I especially like to help out as a greeter/usher at Convocation and join in the family’s excitement as they come to celebrate their children’s hard work and achievements.

How do you spend your time outside of work. Do you have any hobbies?

Outside of work, I volunteer at the Ismaili Centre Vancouver, where among other things, I assist newly arrived immigrants and refugees. I volunteer at events like the annual World Partnership Walk at Stanley Park and at the Kenyan themed water stand at the BMO Marathon. I also entertain seniors in care facilities, dressed as a man, dancing to nostalgic, Bollywood numbers.
