Congratulations to all BCIT students who participated in the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) 2022. The annual Competition provides students the opportunity to experience careers in the skilled trades and applied technologies.
This year’s competition was held in-person at the Vancouver Convention Centre West from May 26-27. More than 300 high school and post-secondary students across Canada participated in over 35 skilled trade and technology competitions, such as cabinetmaking, welding, CNC Milling, aerospace, and more. BCIT students took home awards in gold, silver, and bronze.

Team Canada
- Maxwell Melling, CNC Machinist Technician program – Gold in CNC Turning
- Conner Pavan, Industrial Electrician program, Silver in Industrial Control
- Baljot Kandola, CNC Machinist Technician program, Bronze in CNC Milling
Post-secondary
- Dominic Gammon, Joinery (Cabinetmaker) program, Silver in Cabinetmaking
- Rina Nand, Motorcycle and Power Equipment Technician program, Bronze in Outdoor Power & Recreation Equipment
The SCNC is the only national, multi-trade, and technology competition for students and apprentices in Canada.
Well done to all students who competed in the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) 2022. Special thanks to faculty who provided valuable mentorship and support to students. As well, thank you to the School of Energy, School of Construction and the Environment, and the School of Transportation for welcoming high school students to the BCIT booth onsite at the SCNC and to introduce them to rewarding careers and pathways in trades and technology.
