BCIT recognized as one of BC’s Top Employers for 2022

The British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) has been selected as one of BC’s Top Employers for 2022. This special designation awarded by Canada’s Top 100 Employers, marks BCIT’s twelfth year of being recognized as an industry leader in offering exceptional places to work.

As one of BC’s largest post-secondary institutes with more than 2,600 employees across its five campuses, BCIT is committed to being a people-first organization. Employees share a strong sense of pride in and ambition for BCIT and the Institute strives to create an inspiring workplace and support the development of its people.

New and changed circumstances brought on by the pandemic were faced by BCIT, alongside its post-secondary peers. However, the BCIT community continued to step up to deliver flexible, relevant, and future-proof education that prepares learners to provide applied solutions to industry challenges – across BC and around the world.

“The concepts of teamwork and collaboration are really important to our culture,” says Ana Lopez, BCIT Vice President, Human Resources and People Development. “The resilience, creativity, and innovation that we saw from our instructors, and from those that supported them in every way, was really quite remarkable.”

As featured in the BC’s Top Employers article about BCIT, Carmen Cottini, BCIT Associate Director, Student Housing, attests to the remarkable work environment in the Institute. “Relationship building is huge here,” shares Carmen. “The fact that we do have so many long-standing employees really speaks to that.”

BCIT is committed to providing support to its employees as they, in turn, support the Institute.

BCIT launched its inaugural People Vision (The Vision) this year that describes the Institute’s goals and priorities in respect of its people—those who make BCIT distinct. The Vision creates a framework to ensure employees are developing while feeling valued, supported, and connected. It focuses on five core areas: Talent, Empowerment, Connectedness, Wellness, and Accountability that are fundamental to BCIT employees.

The Vision along with the BCIT Indigenous Vision and Anti-Racism Framework guide the Institute in fostering a community permeated with equality and inclusivity.

Last month, Forbes Canada named BCIT on its list of Canada’s Best Employers 2022 ranking twelfth place out of 300 organizations and companies across the country. BCIT was recognized for its corporate responsibility and impact that it has made in its community. This recognition attests to the efforts of its faculty and staff to deliver on its vision to empower people, shape BC, and inspire global progress.
