Attention all current and future BCIT students! Do you want to get the most out of your time at BCIT? If so, you have come to the right place.
There are many lesser-known student hacks that can elevate your student experience. I am excited to share with you the top three things that I think every BCIT student needs to know.
#1: Student Initiative Fund
I am so happy that I stumbled upon this incredible opportunity. The Student Initiative Fund is one of the Student Association’s hidden gems.
It is a grant that students can apply for to help cover the costs of professional development endeavors. Students can apply to receive 75% coverage for up to $500 for each academic year.
This includes, but is not limited to, reimbursements for:
• webinars
• conferences
• virtual networking – including LinkedIn Premium subscriptions
• leadership training
Seems too good to be true, right? Click here to find out more information.
#2: Career Edge
Along with helping you fund your extracurricular learning, BCIT also offers programs to further facilitate student development. One of these programs is Career Edge.
“Career Edge is a free, flexible, self-paced, service providing Career Coaching, workshops, special events and an 8-module online course.”
In a nutshell, Career Edge is an additional first-come, first-served course that is aimed specifically to set students up for success as they enter the workforce.

#3: Student Clubs
In my experience, clubs are the best way to organically make friends, network, and build new skills. Even though we are online this year, most student clubs are still up and running.
From Breadmasters to Anime Club, there is something for everyone! Many programs also have their own clubs, such as the Business Management, Nursing, and Marketing Associations, to name a few.
Some clubs can be found here, but the best way to learn about clubs is to attend BCIT’s club’s day.
While there are many more BCIT student hacks out there, I guarantee that if you jump on at least one of the three opportunities I’ve mentioned, you will get more out of your time at BCIT.
