For the eighth year, BCIT has been recognized by the American Concrete Institute (ACI) as an Outstanding University for the University Student Activities Program. This prestigious ACI recognition is presented to post-secondary institutions that have successfully participated in ACI activities and programs. The BCIT Civil Engineering Bachelor of Engineering program in the School of Construction and the Environment has achieved the Outstanding University recognition from 2010 to 2012, and then from 2015 to 2019.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the annual ACI Spring Convention and ACI FRC Bowling Ball Competition in Chicago was cancelled. BCIT Civil Engineering students prepared for this competition by designing their own concrete mixtures and were encouraged to source recycled or alternative aggregates and other environmentally-friendly additives. They also worked in the lab casting the concrete balls, but unfortunately were unable to test them. The students were Dylan Nash, Imrose Baga, Pero Pejkovic, Kenji Ono, Juan David Suarez (2019-2020 BCIT ACI Chapter President), Kevyn Xu, Diana Castillo, and Marielle Tabones.
The American Concrete Institute is a leading authority and resource worldwide for the development, distribution and adoption of consensus-based standards, technical resources, educational programs, and proven expertise for individuals and organizations involved in concrete design, construction, and materials, who share a commitment to pursuing the best use of concrete.
