On April 25, 2017, key representatives from PCL Westcoast Constructors Inc. joined us for a special “Thank You PCL” video presentation and tour of the northeast sector of the BCIT Burnaby Campus. In 2006, PCL donated $500,000 (matched by BCIT) in honour of its Centennial Anniversary. The funds were used to establish the PCL Centennial Industry Training Endowment and to support trades training initiatives.
Thanks to PCL’s generosity, the PCL Centennial Fund and equipment donation have made a significant impact – on the students, the school, and the community at large. PCL’s donation has allowed BCIT to upgrade equipment, and therefore, education quality in the construction trades and apprenticeship programs. Boilermaker, Carpentry, Electrical, Joinery, Metal Fabrication, Piping Trades, Sheet Metal and Welding all benefited from PCL’s equipment donation and endowment. Some examples include:
- Carpentry received 8 Total Stations.
- Sheet Metal now has a new plasma cutter.
- Joinery has a new solid wood sander with steel roller.
- Electrical Trades programs, (in particular, the Advanced Certificate in Renewable Energy Electrical Systems Installation and Maintenance), are benefiting from the state of the art Geothermal Trainer and Wind Turbine Nacelle Training System.
- The Metal Trades have a new Accurpress, Hyd-mech Band Saw and Accurshear.
- Piping Trades received a hole cutting tool, butt fusion machine and inserts, Bacharach Flue Gas Analyser, Milwaukee Pressfit Tool Kit, Ridgid Pipe Freeze Kit and Scissor Lift.
- Welding received Power Supply Welders.
We appreciate PCL’s generous support in the future of our students and the future of their workplaces and communities.
