Strong showing at trades & technology “Olympics”

BCIT students were resplendent in yellow at last week’s SkillsBC competition in Abbotsford. Gold, Silver, and Bronze also happened to be popular colours for many of the talented competitors.

SkillsBC is an annual, Olympic-style contest where students from Grade 6, all the way through Post-Secondary, showcase their trades & technology skills. Everything is on display, from Electrical Wiring to Network Systems Administration

Competitors from across the BCIT School of Construction & the Environment, School of Energy, and School of Transportation were hand-selected by their instructors to compete at this prestigious competition.

All in all, BCIT students took home 16 medals, sweeping the categories of CNC, Industrial Mechanic (Millwright), and Precision Machining.

The medal winners from SkillsBC move on to represent BC (and BCIT!) at the National Skills Canada Competition Manitoba in June, and from there have the opportunity to qualify to represent Team Canada at the World Skills Competition.
