BCIT and students in the Mining and Mineral Exploration Technology (MMET) program recently hosted a Donor Recognition event to thank the Cy and Emerald Keyes Charitable Foundation for its outstanding support over the past 26 years.
“We are honoured to personally thank the Cy and Emerald Keyes Charitable Foundation for their commitment to student success and to provide an opportunity for students and the trustees to meet,” said Laurie Clarke, vice president, Development.
The Foundation has contributed more than $730,000 to students through scholarships, bursaries and field school expenses. It was established by the late Cy Keyes who joined Britannia Mines when he was 12 years old as its youngest employee. He nurtured a love for the industry and founded Pacific Diamond Drilling, one of the biggest mines just outside of Kamloops, BC.
The MMET program provides a valuable combination of in-class study and field work, exposing students to the latest developments in industry.
