BCIT is proud to partner with one of the Telecom industry’s finest to introduce the Mitel Telephony Lab. Mitel is the world’s fastest-growing global cloud communications provider, serving over 100 countries around the world, and empowering over 2 billion connections every single day.
Mitel’s donations to the BCIT School of Energy enabled the program to create the Mitel Telephony Lab, located in NE25 at the BCIT Burnaby Campus. The lab houses nine stations that simulate small business telephone systems. BCIT has now been able to train two classes of Telecommunication Technicians with the most up-to-date equipment possible. On top of that, Mitel has funded over $17,000 in student awards!
“With ongoing rapid advances in technology across multiple disciplines and increasing competition for available resources within institutions like BCIT, the need for support from industry to ensure that students are trained to current standards has never been greater,” said Dr. Forrest Tittle, Dean, BCIT School of Energy.
Fortunately, Mitel recognized this need, and joined us to celebrate their donation on February 23, 2017.
When visiting the campus for the plaque unveiling, Vito Celentano, Channel Account Manager with Mitel spoke to Mitel’s relationship with BCIT: “Communications needs are drastically changing, and Mitel is proud to deliver the latest technology for BCIT students to learn and further their careers.” This growing relationship has allowed more students to be trained and meet the demand for technicians in today’s workforce.
The Telecommunications Technician program is just one of BCIT’s unique programs catering to the rapidly changing economy in our province. Thanks to the support of companies like Mitel, BCIT is able to stay ahead of the curve and train today’s students for successful careers in the future!
