The hidden job market can be found at the BCIT Downtown Campus

The BCIT Student Association wants to help current and past students access the hidden job market. Technology Industry Day will be held September 27 at the downtown campus.

“Most jobs are not advertised.  They are filled through networking, referrals and word of mouth,” says Alexandra Gunn, BCITSA Career Specialist.

But it can be difficult to make those connections. So, BCITSA Career Services has organized an event that promises to help students and alumni meet key players in the tech world. There will be 21 companies on hand, keen to hire BCIT talent. Among the potential employers are SAP, Central 1 Credit Union, ICBC, the Public Service Commission of Canada, IUGODouble NegativeTraction on Demand, Unbounce, ISM Canada – an IBM company, DHX Studios, Scanline VFX, and more!

“Coming to this career fair is a great way to access the hidden job market. It is never too early to build your network,” says Gunn. “Your relationship with employers and industry professionals might help you get your dream job in the future.  As they say, it is not what you know but who you know.”

Students who attended last year’s event say it was an “awesome” and “very informative, positive” experience with a “great variety of companies” and friendly “employers [who] introduced themselves [and] took resumes.”

This event is free for all BCIT students and alumni. To find out how to register and prepare for the event, check out these tips and instructions.
