BCIT is a people-first organization. We aim to celebrate our employees by sharing their stories through the Our People series. The series features BCIT’s extraordinary employees who share a strong sense of pride and ambition for the Institute and make up our diverse community.
Get to know Steve Jubb, Instructor, Marine Mechanical Technician Apprenticeship. Steve teaches at the Annacis Island Campus and has been with BCIT for over eight years.
A BCIT grad himself, Steve shares that his journey from student to instructor feels like coming full circle. Initially intimidated by the idea of teaching, he now finds joy in helping students learn and grow. His love for working on boats was driven by his desire to stay close to the ocean, a decision that set him on this career path.
LEARN MORE: BCIT Mechanical Technician Program
Steve advises students that are interested in applying to the Marine Mechanical Technician program to attend an information session to learn more about it. He also suggests visiting a local marina, like Granville Island, to observe mechanics at work and get a feel for the industry.
Graduates of this program pursue a variety of career paths. Some work in mobile services, traveling to different job sites, while others find employment in workshops or manufacturing, building boats from scratch. Many students also enter dealerships or sales roles.
Outside of BCIT, Steve enjoys life on the water. He owns a small property on the Gulf Islands, accessible only by boat, and spends much of his time working on his property or fishing for salmon.
